A message of thanks!

thank you

Happy Holidays to you all at Salem State –
This is just a quick note of appreciation that I wanted to share with all of you regarding the service to the APA Union and Executive Board that Mike Pelletier has given over his terms as local chapter President.

When you commit to serving on any kind of Board or Committee, only the people who serve with you know the sacrifice and effort that goes along with that commitment.  I want to acknowledge and express my thanks to Mike for all that he has contributed to the statewide APA membership.  Mike has always liked to “think differently” in negotiations and union events and activities, and he has never held back on expressing his opinions, agreement and disagreement with issues that present themselves.  Especially when talk of furloughs at Salem became a reality, he worked tirelessly to find a suitable solution and continued to work toward fair treatment for everyone.  He deeply empathizes with members who present issues that need addressing or resolution and ALWAYS works to support the member.  Salem State has had a very active and devoted representative on the APA Executive Board.  If you happen to run into him at the University, please thank him for all that he represents and for which he stands.

Thank you, Mike, for your dedication to the APA, and for all the ideas and suggestions you were tenaciously willing to provide.  I know you will still serve the Salem members with the energy you always demonstrate!
Very Sincerely, Sherry H

VOTE!

Dear Administrators:

Vote

You may be aware by now that I am running for Statewide APA President, and Rosa is running for Statewide APA Vice President. Salem has one of the largest memberships of all the schools and you have a chance next week to make the biggest impact on the issues that are bargained in our next contract! Some areas that SSU members have identified as important are some of our top priorities –

  • Free tuition and fees across the statewide system, not just available to members at some of the schools.
  • Remediate “On-call” status through the introduction of contract language.
  • Address MTA for mutually applicable “MTA Benefits” as faculty.

Every SSU vote in the statewide election is critical and we humbly ask for your vote. It has been our pleasure to serve you at the local chapter level and we look forward to doing it at the statewide level as well.

Remember next week you will receive two election runner invitations by email for your participation in the elections: The APA Statewide election, and our Salem local election are separate elections. Please be sure to vote in both. The elections are available online Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon.

Imagine the potential impact of your full participation on the statewide election and influence on your union in 2022.

Together, we can finally be heard!

Sincerely,

Mike and Rosa

Agreement Ratified!

Our 2020-2023 APA Agreement has officially been ratified!
The final tally, with 60+% of eligible voters casting ballots:
In favor of Ratification: 789Opposed to Ratification: 19
We had particularly high voter participation from Framingham State. Mass Art and Fitchburg State.  And overall – this was a great turnout of voters!  Thanks to all who worked to get this Ratification completed.

Next up – a letter about this successful vote to the Board of Higher Ed and then ensuring that our salary increases find their way into the November Supplemental Budget for our Legislators to fund.

Best regards and thanks -Sherry Horeanopoulos, PresidentAssociation of Professional Administrators
