“The” Contract Bargaining Agreement

At this time, we still have not “seen” our actual contract.  Without the availability of the contract, knowing what is and isn’t there and protecting your rights as defined by the contract is very difficult.

Mike comments on anticipated language of the unreleased CBA:

“What we anticipate and expect:

Clarification of the use of “Alternate Work Schedule” (formerly Flexible Scheduling); and the terminology “Flex Time”, also anticipated to be in the contract.

So Why the Owls?

Owl

We’ve received some questions as to why we have owls featured on the SSU APA website. The Snowy Owl photos (it is winter after all), come to us from Steven S. Ross Nature Photography. Steven, an SSC alum is married to SSU employee Vickie Ross who works in our Academic Affairs office. The other reason for the owls? Owls have always signified wisdom and knowledge. “Who” doesn’t like owls?

Derek Barr

A Message from the Secretary – APA Newsletter Launch

January 2019

Hello Salem State APA membership!
Here we are, starting another calendar year and another spring term (as we prepare for the possibility of our first significant snowfall of the season).  I and the rest of the board hope everyone had a restful holiday season and break.  Every month I will be sending out a newsletter, which will also be published to our website, to keep everyone up to date with the miscellanea related to our chapter.  As this is the first newsletter, it is a little longer than I hope future editions will be.  View Newsletter

Special Election Results

Results Road Sign with dramatic clouds and sky.

Dear Membership:

Special election results are in:

I want to congratulate Brian Helman, now Salem Chapter APA Secretary, and Rosa De Virgilio Taormina, now Grievance Officer.

Brian Helman was also elected to a Grievance Officer position.

With a single write-in for Daniel P. McCue—which does not elect Dan. (Sorry, Dan.)

This was a great event with more than 30 voting members participating. I look forward to having a local working group and a Salem State Chapter APA full cabinet.

Thank you.

MIKE
